Sean Swain has been held captive by the State of Ohio since 1991 for the self-defense stabbing death of a court official's realative who broke into Sean's home. The Erie County, Ohio courts subjected him to an unfair trial and retrial motivated by political gain. Sean is the only son of a retired auto worker and stay-at-home mom. He has renounced his high school diploma (1987), his college degree (1993), and his Honarable discharge from the US Army (1989). Prior to captivity, he worked for a short time as a columnist for the Anchor Bay Beacon newspaper and volunteered as a union organizer. Sean's writings include FREEDOM: The Insight, Rage and Fury of Political Prisoner Sean Swain which is a compilation of a number of previously published works, BOMB THREAT: The Revolutionary Politics of Liberation, which represented his campaign platform when he ran for Governor of Ohio in 2006; THE TRUTH IS DANGEROUS, his statement to the 2008 Philadelphia Stopmax conference; and LAST ACT OF THE CIRCUS ANIMALS: A Story for Children of All Ages, co written with Travis Washington. The Prison Industrial Complex found his writings so dangerous, Sean spent seventy days in the hole in 2008 and was only spared a transfer to supermax due to the vocal opposition mounted by his frineds, family, and supporters. Sean is the founding member of the Conditions Factory Publishing Collective based out of Toledo Correctional Institution. If he survives captivity (and isn't elected Governor of Ohio in 2010), he intends to seek political asylum in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, CUba, Venezuela, or the Zapatista controlled areas of southern Mexico where he can write freely and continue the struggle against the reactionary forces of international capital and imperial hegemony. Sean's next eligible release date from the fascist oppressor's control machine is November 2011. |
